Haifa Hillel

 

The university years present a rare opportunity for students to explore a sense of identity and spirituality in a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment. Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, the largest Jewish student organization in the world, provides a healthy forum for students and young people to share perspectives, to celebrate Jewish life, and to define and express how Judaism resonates for them.

 

Hillel welcomes all streams and perspectives in the Jewish world, thereby offering a safe and comfortable place for students to explore and connect to their Judaism in a variety of meaningful ways.

 

Haifa Hillel is a unique community-based center as it serves all universities and college campuses in the city of Haifa. Haifa Hillel invites you to visit our center at Beit Hecht in the Carmel, and participate in a variety of programs on campus and in the dormitories, or initiate some ideas of your own!

 

Programs at Haifa Hillel are divided into four main modules: Jewish Renewal: Culture, Learning and Celebration (Pluralism); Social Justice (Tzedek); Student Engagement and Leadership and Jewish World: Israel-Diaspora Relations. Below is a sample of current Haifa Hillel programs:

• Beit Midrash on the Jewish Calendar Year – In this workshop, students undergo a year-long learning process where they study Jewish values and rituals reflected in the Jewish calendar year, and then plan holiday activities for the entire campus and community.

• Yedidi Hashachacta?! - Friend, Have you Forgotten?! – This is a unique national Hillel project featuring a series of concerts that combine traditional Jewish music (piyut) from various Jewish communities around the world with top-billed Israeli rock performers, creating a synthesis of new and old sounds.

• Yozmot Tzedek - Social Justice Initiatives – Students are empowered to initiate their own ideas for tzedek projects that make a difference in their community.
